Sacramental Preparation
Sacraments are sacred occasions in family and parish life. Students preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation will be expected to follow all diocesan and parish guidelines.
Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist
Sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation (also called Confession or Penance) and First Communion normally take place in the second grade for children who have been baptized. Essential for the preparation of First Communion is regular worship at Sunday Mass, participation in religious education, and a commitment on the part of the parents to the religious education of their child.
Older children (in grades 3 or higher), who have not yet received these sacraments, are prepared with instruction appropriate to the needs of the child with the involvement of the parents. If your child has missed some or all grades, there is a place for your child to begin sacramental preparation in the program.
Specific requirements are handed out at the mandatory parent meetings each September.
Sacrament of Confirmation
Each tenth grade student is invited to be a candidate for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Each will be asked to make a decision and commitment at their Confirmation, to serve God and their Church as full, active, practicing Catholics. As such they will be called to a life of frequent prayer. This means individual prayer, family prayer and prayer as part of a Church community. They will also be called to be a witness/example of their faith in their daily lives. Finally, as adult Catholics we are called to be servants.
Specific requirements are handed out at the mandatory parent meeting each September.
